S.O.S I will visit the city center of New York from 07-16/03/2013.
I need a place to stay with my 2 adult children (25-27 y).
i am a middle aged woman from Belgium, living in Crete, Greece for the last 28 years. If any one is interested in an exchange for the island of Crete, or can suggest cheap accommodation, or host, all info is welcome.
I offer a villa for 4 persons out of high season (May to September) for non simultanous exchange or a studio for 2 persons for a maximum stay of 3 weeks at any time which could suit you.
Thanks for feedback and some tips.

Seeing the Real Beijing: The Hutongs – the Old Fashioned Way
    blog

For the last leg of our Trans-Siberian railway journey, we spent almost three days in Beijing.  There we enjoyed seeing the city’s modern architecture, soaring skyscrapers, colorful shopping districts and first-class hotels. Towards the end of our visit, our guide reminded us that we had one more urban adventure on the agenda – a visit to Beijing’s Hutong district aboard a bicycle rickshaw.  I wasn’t sure what more there was to see in the city, so I looked at him with puzzlement.  Alas, the guide said, you haven’t really seen Beijing until you have wandered through its old, narrow neighborhoods – the Hutongs – from the perches of a rickshaw! So off we went to an area of Beijing, near a small lake that had hundreds of colorful bicycle rickshaws parked along the water’s edge.  Each was decorated a little ...

Will be traveling to Southern California and up the West Coast to Portland Oregon in very late May and through most of June, I-70 out to Canyonlands area, then to Las Vegas and then to sister's place in San Jacinto, CA. We will then head to Big Sur for a couple of days, then on to Yosemite for another couple of days. Our trip will continue from there to Portland, taking a couple of days to get there. Will be in Portland (somewhere) for 5-6 days visiting with our son, he can't accomodate us, so we will be seeking a place to stay there, hopefully in the northwest section of the city. We will then head back to Michigan via the I-80 route.

This should be interesting :) I've been a poster on the Lonely Planet Thorntree for about 8 years and have made a lot of friends around the world through that - visiting many of them in other countries. This past year, 2011, has seen us spend about 7 months on the road in our campervan. Canada, US and Mexico. From Mexico City we flew to Ecuador for a month.

For the next few months we'll be lying low here at home because I am having my second knee replaced - so much fun. But I survived it once before and so I shall again. The results are worth it - another 30 years of traveling I hope. But I do have something to look forward to. We have booked a small RV out of Johannesburg from May through July next year. We are planning to travel around South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. So if there are any members over there ...speak up. We'd love to meet you.

In the meantime, we are located very close to Vancouver, BC. So if anyone has questions about this area or are visiting and would like to share a coffee with a local, I am sure I can rustle that up :)

Sounds like you've had some amazing travel adventures! Ecuador I've never been to, but it's on my list.

My son is traveling around South Africa now. If you need any tips, I'll be sure to connect you.

I noticed on your profile you had a link to your site (www.lifewellspent.com). I love the Travel section!

Thank you for the invite to share a coffee in Vancouver! My husband and I were thinking of going there next spring. It seems you'll be away, but if we do decide to travel there, I'll take up your offer and ask for some local tips. :)

If you're down on California's Central Coast or in Central Mexico, I'd be happy to host.

Awesome! Tripping definitely works - I actually just came back from Big Sur so am happy to recommend Riverside Cabins and Campgrounds if you're looking to camp. I may not live in the area but you can certainly reach out to Trippers along the West Coast for more suggestions (you can search for them by city in the search field of the members tab above OR in the search bar at the top of the page), meeting up and even for a place to stay if you'd like!

I lived not far from Big Sur for years and used to take my family there a few times a year. Riverside Cabins and Campgrounds are great. I would also recommend Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. I now live in another city but it's still close - about an hour and a half away. I travel frequently but send me a host request closer to the date of your trip and I'd be happy to host if I'm in town!
