You may have read this story about EJ, a member of Airbnb whose home was recently ransacked by renters. It’s a tragic situation all around and our thoughts are with their team and EJ right now.
EJ’s story prompted a lot of discussion around Tripping HQ today, as we all use Tripping to meet and host travelers from around the world. Keeping our community safe has always been our #1 priority, which is why we offer more safety features than any other hospitality site. As a quick refresher, here are our core safety features:
References: References are brief testimonials written by members, describing the experiences they’ve had with each other. We highly recommend that you take the time to read them, as References are an excellent indication of what it may be like to meet, host or stay with other members.
Ratings: Ratings are another one of our core safety features. They’re anonymous, based on a sophisticated algorithm and shown on a scale of 1-5 stars. If someone receives a low rating for safety, our team is instantly notified so we can look into it.
SOS Hotline: Every single Tripper has access to our emergency hotline. If you ever feel at risk, you can contact us firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll get in touch with you ASAP. While we can’t guarantee that we’ll have the resources and ability to rescue you, we will always do our best to help. (In other words, we’ve got your back.)
Video Validation: Validation enables you to confirm your identity and address, so other members will feel more comfortable meeting, hosting and staying with you. We arrange a face-to-face Skype call where we’ll ask you to hold up your passport and proof of address. Once we’ve confirmed your identity, you’ll get a “validated” stamp on your profile.
Private Networks: We’re partnered with universities and other organizations that have private Networks on Tripping. Since these Networks require a password or email address, you can feel more secure meeting Trippers who share your social circles.
Behind-the-Scenes Stuff: We’ve also built a bunch of safety features that operate behind the scenes. This way we can proactively identify suspicious behavior and take immediate action.
Zero Tolerance: Just for the record, we have zero tolerance for Trippers who pose ANY sort of risk to our community. Meeting strangers can be a beautiful thing and we want to keep it that way.
We always recommend that you use good judgement when meeting people online, whether on Tripping or any other site. If you ever have questions about how to stay safe while hosting or staying with Trippers, we’re always here for you – you’re welcome to contact us directly anytime.
