What to do in Italy?

Over at WhyGoItaly there is un articolo fantastico (an awesome article) about 20 things to do while traveling in Italy. Ovviamente there are many more things to do in such a vibrant country, but this list is a good starting point.

Here are our 3 favorite suggestions from the list:

8. Tempt fate while driving along the Amalfi Coast

Whether you decide to do the driving or not, the road that snakes along this stretch of Italian coastline is well worth the trip. It’s precarious at best and dangerous at worst, but the Italians seem to make it work – and the views are simply stunning.

14. See an Italian soccer game

It matters not one bit if you’re a soccer fan, or even a sports fan for that matter; going to a game of calcio makes for an unforgettable trip.

20. Walk in Caesar’s footsteps in Rome

History buff or no, it’s impossible not to marvel at a structure like the Colosseum, or stand in awe on the cobblestones of the Roman Forum and think about who walked there before you.

My 3 picks would be:- Take a night ride on the #1 vaporetto in Venice- See an opera in Verona – Go for a drive in Tuscany

Hands down my favorite place in Italy, #15 Hike the Cinque Terre trail. We stayed in a 3 BR apartment with 13 people in one of the villages, Riomaggiore. As you can imagine, there are a lot of stories from this trip… It was an incredible! :)

This post makes me wonder why I’m not in Italy right now. I rented a flat in Florence one summer and loved it, so I definitely recommend just about any activity there (#5 and #11 on the list). My favorite recommendation, however, is hands-down # 16 – eat two scoops of gelato daily.

I love the canals in Venice. However, I also like roaming around Rome and the historic aspects of this ancient town.
