How can I use Tripping to find my dream vacation home?

Tripping is a travel site that makes it easy to search, compare and book home rentals in over 36,000 cities. Our listings come from the world’s top rental sites (our partners) which means that you have access to the widest selection of home rentals in a single place.

Finding a vacation home or short-term rental is easy on Tripping. Simply search for your desired location and click into each listing to view additional property details. Depending on the supplier (such as HomeAway or ZenRentals), you can then inquire about the property or book instantly.

What search terms should I use?

Tripping’s search field is highly flexible. This means you can search for city names, neighborhoods, landmarks, favorite local spots and even street addresses. Our search results will show you rentals in the area surrounding your search query.

So whether you want to search for Paris, the 6ème arrondissement, the Eiffel Tower, Les Deux Magots cafe or anything else, finding rentals is always easy on Tripping.

What types of rentals can I find on Tripping?

Tripping has a vast variety of rental types including cabins, condos, boats, bungalows, city lofts, shared rooms, ranch homes, luxury villas and even castles. We categorize these listings by the following Listing Types:

  • Bed: this Listing Type is typically sought by guests who want the camaraderie and social atmosphere of a shared space. These are often solo travelers who are looking for social interaction and are happy to share a room with new friends.
  • Private Room: this Listing Type is desired by guests who want to stay in a private room but also enjoy a personal connection with locals. If you’re renting a private room, be prepared to spend some time with your hosts. They’ll enjoy it and we bet you will, too.
  • Apartment: this Listing Type is for guests who want to stay in a local neighborhood and don’t mind sharing hallways, elevators and common areas with other residents of the apartment building. As a guest, you will have the entire apartment to yourself during your stay.
  • House: this Listing Type is for guests who want to have an entire home to themselves. Homes can include houses, cabins, villas and castles. Vacation homes are particularly great for long duration stays.

Where does Tripping get its inventory?

Tripping is a metasearch platform, which means that we aggregate inventory from the world’s top rental sites. As all of our listings come directly from suppliers via customized feeds, you’ll always see fresh, up-to-date listings.

One of our suppliers, ZenRentals, has also made it possible for hosts to list properties through Tripping’s website. So in addition to getting a feed from ZenRentals, we are able to display ZenRentals properties that are listed here as well. Learn more about how to list a space on Tripping.

Which rental sites does Tripping work with?

Our fantastic partners include HomeAway, Flipkey, Roomorama, Wimdu, ZenRentals, Bedycasa, 9Flats, Gloveler, Holiday Velvet and Way2Stay (among others). Read about these suppliers or search for their properties by using filters on the left side of the search page.

Can I bring my pet or service animal with me?

Vacation rentals are a great option for travelers with pets, especially since many rentals have gardens and outdoor areas. To see all of your pet-friendly accommodation options, simply click on the “Pet Friendly” amenity filter on the left side of the search page. Also be sure to read the description, as some vacation rental owners only allow pets on a case-by-case basis.

How do I book a rental?

The process of booking a rental will depend on the listing’s supplier. Here are some examples of how to book rentals through our partners:

HomeAway: Click “Check Availability” on the listing’s detail page. You’ll be taken to HomeAway’s website where you can contact the host directly. The host will then respond and help you complete the booking.

FlipKey: Like with HomeAway, click “Check Availability” to be redirected to FlipKey’s website. If you see a button that says “Inquire Now” you can contact the host directly through Tripping.

ZenRentals: You can book ZenRentals listings directly through Tripping. All transactions are Instant-Book enabled, which means you can book them the same way you would book a hotel room.

What is Instant-Book?

Instant-Book means the guest can book your property instantly, just like they’d book a hotel room. When guests find your listing in search results, they can see your listing’s calendar and instantly book your property for available dates. You’ll immediately receive confirmation of the booking without needing to correspond with your host first. To give hosts additional peace of mind, we give them the option of having guests complete a damage waiver or undergo background checks during the booking process. All ZenRentals properties are Instant-Book enabled and available exclusively on Tripping. Click here to list your space via ZenRentals now.

Do I need to become a member in order to book a rental?

Nope - you don’t need to become a member to book any of the rentals on Tripping.

If you’re booking an Instant-Book ZenRentals rental, simply enter your information and credit card number to confirm your booking. Please note that some hosts may require SafelyStay Guest Verification which takes place at the time of booking.

How does the check-in process work for ZenRentals Bookings?

Arrangements for check-in in are made directly between the guest and host. At the time of booking, you will receive your host’s contact information so that you can set an arrival time and arrange for the key exchange. If you haven’t heard from your host yet, we highly recommend that you get in touch soon.

What should I do if I can't reach my host before check-in?

When you book an ZenRentals listing, you’ll receive an email confirmation that includes your host’s contact information. You should contact them at least 7 days prior to arrival to discuss the logistics of your stay (including your arrival time and the key exchange). If you’re unable to reach your hosts by phone or email, you should contact us immediately so that we can help.

Why am I getting customer service emails from Tripping?

When you book an ZenRentals listing, you’ll receive emails directly from Tripping. This is because ZenRentals has arranged for us to handle customer service on their behalf.


How is pricing determined for each listing?

Hosts set rates for their rental properties. They may choose to include a cleaning fee or damage waiver, to give them additional peace of mind.

Which payment methods do you accept for ZenRentals Listings

Bookings on ZenRentals can be made via major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, American Express and JCB.

What do I do if my credit card isn't working?

ZenRentals accepts the following credit cards: Visa, Master Card, American Express and JCB. If your credit card isn’t working, check that your card has not expired and that all of your information was entered correctly. If you believe your card is being erroneously refused by your bank, you should contact your credit card provider or bank.

What are the service fees for ZenRentals bookings?

Guests are asked to pay a 10% service fee on each booking. This fee is used to cover ZenRentals’s costs and - since Tripping handles bookings and customer service for ZenRentals - a portion of the fee goes to Tripping as well.

Hosts are asked to pay 3% of the total booking price to cover our credit card fees.

Why does my host ask for a cleaning fee or damage waiver?

Hosts work hard to ensure that you have a great experience in their homes. On occasion they will ask guests to pay a cleaning fee, which goes towards paying a professional service to clean the home either before or after your stay.

Hosts may also ask that you pay for a damage waiver. Ranging from $30-$45 with coverage up to $3000, a damage waiver will cover any accidental damages that might happen during your stay. Damage waivers should give both you and your host greater peace of mind.

As a guest, will I need to pay taxes on my bookings?

Taxes are not automatically calculated into the price of your booking. We strongly recommend that you look into your local laws to ensure that you’re paying all applicable taxes.

Reservations & Cancellations

How do I cancel my ZenRentals booking?

In the event that you need to cancel a booking, please contact us immediately. We’ll contact the host and take care of it for you.

Please note that you may be subject to cancellation fees or asked to leave the site if you have multiple cancellations. This is to ensure that hosts always have a great experience renting their spaces through Tripping.

What happens if the host cancels my ZenRentals booking?

In the event your host cancels the booking, our cancellation policy will be upheld and you’ll be alerted immediately via email. You’ll receive a full refund and our team will be happy to help you find another rental.

Are guests eligible for refunds under extenuating circumstances?

In the event that extenuating circumstances prevent you from arriving, a manual refund may be issued. Please note that this is a rare occurrence and each case is reviewed by our team.
