Katy was born and raised in Sebastopol, California, home of 7,000 residents and the Gravenstein apple. Having grown up on the adventure tales of her parents, travel and cultural exchange have always been a big part of Katy's life. She's also been involved with the nonprofit world and is especially eager to help foster Tripping's social entrepreneurship initiatives.
Katy graduated Summa Cum Laude from San Francisco State University with a B.A. in Technical and Professional Writing. Fascinated by everything from the mundane to the wacky, Katy recently took a two-month, cross-country road trip and is excited to return the hospitality she received on the road. So if you're headed through San Francisco, drop her a line.
Alberto is originally from Piacenza, an industrial town located one hour south of Milan, Italy. His life as a traveler and expat began at the age of 8 when he moved to Texas. Since then he has lived in Venezuela, Mexico and California and speaks fluent Italian, Spanish and English. He loves exploring and re-discovering San Francisco through his camera lens and can often be found at his computer coding late into the night.
Originally from Edinburgh Scotland, Andrew is working towards an engineering degree at Gainesville State (where he is also the Student Body President). Andrew helped come up with ideas for Tripping way back when we were still scribbling notes on napkins and, though he has almost no spare time these days, he pitches in whenever he can.
Apo grew up in Switzerland playing hockey and sailing around the Mediterranean with his 3 older brothers. Now a student at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, he can most often be found people watching, attending startup events and having conversations with new acquaintances over a Pacifico beer at a local bar. If you don't see him at any of his favorite local spots, it means he's probably traveling to some new and exotic places.
Caryn is a University of Michigan student in Informatics and the current VP of business development at AIESEC, the largest student-run organization in the world. In her short moments of free time she likes to cook, bake, and most of all feed people! She has traveled for extended periods of time to Peru, Chile, Spain, and Israel. Originally from New York, she loves meeting new people and visiting new places.
Chris is a certified yoga teacher and she does a great job looking after the health and well-being of the Tripping Team. She's also an avid traveler and has spent time living in Belize, Costa Rica, France, New Zealand and Thailand. When not coaxing us into difficult yoga positions, Chris is the Associate Admissions Director for a prep school in Atherton, CA.
Whether it's river rafting in Estonia, summoning the rain god Kukulkan at Chichen Itza, hugging massive redwoods in Yosemite or grooving to oldies at dive bars in Hamburg, Kristina lives by the credo that life is too short to stay in one place. Current stop: PR coordinator in San Francisco.
Lauren grew up in San Diego, California. While in school she lived in Barcelona and was president of the Hawaii Club, where she organized cultural events and led polynesian dance classes. After graduating, she traveled through Europe and spent a year in Australia on a Work Holiday Visa. Lauren now lives in San Francisco and loves to share her time with visiting Trippers!
Lucian was born in Cluj Romania and started programming full-time by the age of 13. He helped us prepare for our Beta launch and he slept little and worked a lot on architecting the site. With the European love for travel and football (aka soccer) in his blood, Lucian has also traveled around the world and claims to have an excellent sense of direction.
Napua is a student at Northeastern University in Boston, but she was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is obsessed with sports, music and travel. The main travel goal of her lifetime is to go to every major music festival in the world, and every major league baseball stadium.
Having grown up in Taiwan and transplanted to the Bay Area, Nina's diverse background and interests make her an open-minded life traveler and an avid learner. She plans to blog about life and Taiwan in both Chinese and English.
Sarah Alaoui is an expat pursuing an M.A. in public affairs and action from Sciences Po Lille in France. Her passions, interests and life philosophy can be summed up by the following Kerouac quote: "The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing..."
The daughter of the owner of a food-concessions business, for the past thirteen summers Tiffany has gone where the people needed curly fries: as a result she was often "all over the place," and loved every minute of it. Since she's graduating in May, she'd like to try something new, but she hasn't quite figured out what that something is yet.
An avid globe trotter, Tina has traveled, studied, and worked abroad. Passionate about cultures, languages, and most importantly the people that define and give meaning to a geographic space, she is excited to contribute to the growth of Tripping as an international cultural exchange community and network for individuals from all walks of life.
