AARP Announces Collaboration with Tripping.com Offering a Social Travel Platform to Its Nearly 40 Million Members

WASHINGTON, SAN FRANCISCO and LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AARP®, the nation's leading group for the 50+, today announced a new collaboration with Tripping, a progressive social travel site that connects travelers with local people in over 145 countries. Through this collaboration, AARP will have a branded Network on Tripping.com which is designed for AARP's 40 million+ members.

The new AARP Abroad Tripping Network can be found at https://www.tripping.com/network/aarp/info. While traveling, members of the AARP Abroad Network can meet local members for cultural exchange, shared cups of coffee and homestays. These face-to-face meetings go far beyond social networking and allow real-life interaction that enhances domestic and international travel.

AARP members can also use the Tripping Network to meet travelers and local members in their own cities. In addition to expanding their personal and professional networks, members can connect with new friends for conversation, dinner parties, rounds of golf and other local activities.

Having recently received more than $1M in funding in a round led by Quest Venture Partners (QVP), Tripping has helped thousands of people to connect for shared cultural experiences and homestays around the world. In addition to AARP, Tripping's partners include universities, AmeriCorps Alums, PADI, Hostelling International and AIESEC, the largest student-run organization in the world.

Tripping was started by veterans from StubHubTM and TravelzooTM who wanted to create a safe and easy way for travelers to meet local people. Since members use Tripping to meet each other offline, the site offers a wide range of safety mechanisms including references, anonymous ratings, video validation and an emergency hotline for all of its members. These unique safety features help to ensure that all members are provided with a safe experience while traveling around the world.

"AARP continuously looks for new ways to add value and offer unique opportunities for our members - our relationship with Tripping has the potential to bring together our nearly 40 million members in a fun and social way," said Bradley Schurman, Senior Advisor at AARP. "We are thrilled to offer this platform to AARP members and hope they take advantage of this free service."

"To say that we are excited to be working with AARP is a tremendous understatement," said Jen O'Neal, Tripping's CEO and co-founder. "As an organization geared towards advocacy and independence, AARP has taken a leadership role in offering a social travel platform to their members. We're looking forward to working together with AARP to bring cultural exchange and broadened horizons to their members, both at home and overseas."
